our life is on your palms, pun intended! Yeah, I know… this may sound like I am being superstitious, but your life events are determined by those lines on your palm. Are you still skeptic? That’s reasonable because in this 21st century I may sound like a rather Greek Civilization civilian. Or you may tag me as a fool who still believes in Palmistry. I can understand that, and I am not ashamed of believing in palmistry. Let me quote Alexander the Great on Palmistry: “It’s a study worthy the attention of an elevated and inquiring mind.” Beat it!
So how can the lines on your palms tell about your life? (Palmistry is about both the past and future, I guess.)
Just as the nose, mouth, eyes and ears have their natural positions on the head, so the lines of heart, head, fate and life have their natural positions on our hands.
Figure (i) Lines on Palm |
This post is not my original creation. In fact, I have tried to summarize here the large and complex science of Hand-reading or Palmistry, based upon the study of different books on the topic. One of ‘em is Cheiro’s Guide to the Hand. I hope by the time you complete this project, you can see that the lines on your palms actually make sense. Congratulations, you are unofficially and personally an amateur Palm-reader!
Let’s Get to Reading your Life!
First, let’s get familiar with the basics… of course, the lines on your palm. That’s what you are going to read in this whole session.
See the above adjacent figure (i) of the right palm for reference. You don’t need to memorize it completely, although it’d be easy for you if you can. I have numbered the lines for the convenience in further reading.
Finger Tips:
Starting with the analysis of finger tips will be good for now. There are generally three types of fingers (unless you are an alien). Each type hints certain qualities of the person.
a. Square: Practical, realistic, down-to-earth person who likes to follow method and order
b. Pointed: Very rare type. Uninterested in material, practical side of life. Prefers to live in the world of fantasy, idealism, imagination, and dreams. Usually possess poetic musical or artistic abilities. But knowledge isn’t of more value if it’s not applied. Lacks drive and practical application.
c. Rounded: Hybrid Theory. Nice balance between the square and pointed finger tips. Realist+Dreamer. They take a time to appreciate the beauty of life, but are conscious enough to not get lost in it for long. They are aware of day-to-day way of life and necessities.
Fingers:
Finger tips rest on, obviously, fingers.
a. Short fingers: Hate to beat around the bush. Get straight to the matter. Think and act quickly. Slow and careful analysis bores ‘em.
b. Long fingers: Think, move, and act slow. Careful, attentive to small details. Often miss opportunities.
c. Smooth fingers: Guided by their feelings and first impressions. Quick to think and act. Motivation based on intuition/inspiration rather than on cold hard facts and reasons.
d. Knotted fingers: Seldom make snap judgments. Skeptic. Lack imagination.
Thumb:
Thumb is the strongest finger of all. Its features are indicative of your nature too.
a. Firm-jointed thumb: This type of thumb is fairly rigid and inflexible in a way that the tip won’t bend backward to any noticeable degree. Denotes a more obstinate will and determination than that of the bendable, supple jointed (flexible) kind; it’s as if the firm jointed thumbs are more made to resist, and if their lives were carefully watched, it would be found that they have to resist and fight their way more in life than people possessing the other class.
b. Supple-jointed thumb (Flexible): Denotes a more pliant nature. Changeable. Less strict in their views and ideas. Great generosity, extravagance, and often prodigality.
c. Large thumb: Indicates strength, achievement, capability, self-reliance, confidence and inner power. Leader/Doer.
d. Small thumb: Indicates a weak character. Follower. Little determination or will to win. Easily defeated. Weakens the good qualities elsewhere on the hand. (FYI: Short thumb barely reaches the base of index finger)
e. Medium thumb: Endows the person with the potential to achieve an average degree of success.
So how do you read and relate the lines on your hands? Do you read left hand or right hand? It depends!
If you are right-handed, your left hand is “passive" and shows your inherited potential - those qualities, abilities and tendencies with which you were born. Your right hand is "active" and reveals how you have either developed or changed those natural inborn characteristics. If you are left-handed, the reverse applies, so your right hand is the passive one while your left hand being active reveals what you have consciously and deliberately done with the potential you have inherited.
1. Life Line:
First thing… time! Earlier periods of life are on the upper part of the Life line, and the old age lies in the lower part.
Life Line |
Health line must be considered while analyzing the life line because most often Health is your life. It’s better for a person if he has no Line of Health at all. The heavier the Health line, the more the nervous system is impaired. When the line of health and life meet, if one is equal in weight to the other, where such a meeting place occurs will be in the greatest probability the point of death.
Life line should be long, narrow, and deep, without irregularities or breaks of any kind. Such a formation promises length of life, good health, and vitality.
When the Life Line is connected with that of the head without the two lines clinging very much into the palm, it is a good sign denoting caution, carefulness, and as a rule, continuity of purpose; such people are, however, very sensitive, and generally lack sufficient self-confidence. When these lines are extremely interwoven together, the subjects are retarded by super-sensitiveness; they are too easily crushed and discouraged in the struggle for existence. A medium space between these two main lines (Life and Head) is an excellent sign.
When the Life line divides above the centre of palm, and one branch shoots across to the base of the Mount of Luna (Part of palm below the little finger—just above the wrist), it indicates a love of change, travel, and ultimate satisfaction of that desire.
It is always a successful sign when this line is found to join the Fate Line, especially if the Fate line looks stronger at or about this point of junction.
2. Head Line:
In general, the length of the line measures a person's intelligence. If short and extending only halfway across the palm, it indicates limited mental capacity. Anything less than halfway is rare and must be considered a serious deficiency of mind. If the headline crosses right over to the other edge of the palm it is too long head definitely rules heart.
Head Line |
Carefully note the mental potential shown in the headline on the passive hand, and then compare it with the one on the active hand to see if the person has changed, developed or retarded his inherited mental ability. The headline and lifeline usually join where they begin between the thumb and index finger. It is only when the head line breaks away and becomes a separate line that the person cuts the mental apron strings; while the two lines are united he or she is I strongly influenced by family background. Some people achieve self reliance and self-determination early in life while others do so much later.
In some cases the headline begins above the lifeline and at no time are they joined together. This is the hallmark of an independent person and the wider the gap which separates the two lines, the greater will be the desire for freedom, self reliance, individuality and independence. The quality of the headline will reveal much about the state of the nervous system. A well-defined, clear, deep line indicates a strong, healthy condition but if the line is shallow, chained and broken or made up of little islands, the person is highly strung, restless, nervy and lacking in inner serenity.
If your head line slopes downward: Sensitive, Impressionable, Imaginative; not pre-occupied with practical concerns.
If your Head line is forked (>):
I. Toward Mount of Mars(mid length of the palm below the little finger): Practical
II. Toward the Mount of Moon (lower left part of the open palm—on right hand): Imaginative
The person with forked Head Line can see the two sides of any situation and is adaptable, versatile, and broadminded. The stronger, deeper or longer half of the fork will reveal whether the person is more practical or more imaginative.
3. Heart Line:
The heart line not only reveals the strength or weakness of the physical heart - it shows the character and nature of the affections as well.
In rare cases the heart line is absent, indicating a person who at times can be cold, heartless and selfish, particularly if the hands and fingers are thin and pale.
The heart line's starting point tells you a great deal about a person's attitude to love. If the line begins on the Mount of Jupiter (Index Finger), for that person true love is all-important. He or she has the capacity to adore a loved one and is very demonstrative in expressing feelings, emotions and affections Person with this type of heart line is likely to marry someone very ambitious for their partner’s own success.
If the heart line begins on the Mount of Saturn (Middle finger), this person does not wear his heart on his sleeve, is reserved or even inhibited about expressing feelings and emotions and is certainly not all that demonstrative in matters of love. This denotes a more sensual quality in connection with the affection. It is often found that such a line from Saturn has very few branches or deviations and is a heavy deep red line sweeping through the palm. People with such a mark are generally selfish in their affection, very sensual and voluptuous. (That’s me!)
If the heart line begins between the Mounts of Jupiter and Saturn (between index and middle finger), it indicates that the person’s attitude to love is neither of the two previous extremes but is one of moderation. The affections are strong but he is sensible and unlikely to be foolishly carried away by his feelings, emotions and sentiments. This mark is found more on the hands of women than on men.
4. Sun Line:
This is my best part because I’ve a fantastic Sun Line.
The sun line is the hallmark of brilliance and creativity but before deciding how and where the possessor of this line will "shine", it is essential to look at the phalanges, fingertips, thumb and headline to see whether it will be in practical, artistic, emotional, mental, imaginative or material and financial pursuits. It would be wrong to promise a brilliant career in business if the fingertips are pointed, the thumb short and weak and the, headline droops to the Mount of the Moon. A long, deep, strong, straight line indicates the maximum intensity of brilliance, creativity, talent, fame and subsequent wealth. These potentials decrease as the sun -line becomes thin, short, shallow, wavy, broken, chained or islanded.
Many hands do not contain a sun line and while this certainly does not indicate failure in life, the person is unlikely to achieve brilliance and fame.
5. Fate Line (Destiny/Fortune):
When the line of fate rises from the line of life and from that point on is strong, success and riches will be won by personal merit, but if the line be marked low down near the wrist and tied down, as it were, by the side of the life-line, it tells that the early portion of the subject's life will be sacrificed to the wishes of parents or relatives.
When the Line of Fate commences at the wrist and goes straight and clear to its termination on Saturn, it denotes a strong personality and is generally a good sign to have. It is a sign of extreme good fortune and success.
When Line of fate originates from Mount of Luna then, success is far more changeable and uncertain; fate and success will be more or less dependent on the fancy and caprice of other people. This is very often found in the case of public favorites.
When the line of fate rises from the line of head, and that line is well marked, then success will be won late in life, after a hard struggle and through the subject's talents.
When it rises from the line of heart extremely late in life, after a difficult struggle success will be won.
#Bonus Section:
I. Love and Affection:
When found, they are situated on the side of the hand between the base of the little finger and the end of the heart line. If you do not have those lines it doesn't mean you will never feel affection but it does mean that your emotional relationships do not make a really deep impression on you.
Time Scale |
There may be one or several of these lines on your hand, indicating one or more love affairs, those which are deep and well-defined correspond with the people with whom you fall deeply in love. They are certainly "affairs to remember". If a line is thin and faintly etched, your emotional response to the person represented by that particular line is not intense.
You can assess at what age a mild, moderate or deep love affair will occur by locating the position of faint, medium or deep lines on the time scale.
II. Marriage:
The line of marriage on the Mount of Mercury should be straight and clear, without breaks, islands, or irregularities of any kind. When it curves or droops downwards towards and into the Line of Heart, it foretells that the person with whom the subject is married will die first.
When the line curves upwards, he/she isn’t likely to marry at any time.
Marriage & Children Lines |
When the Line of Marriage is distinct, but with little hair lines dropping from it towards the Heart Line, it tells of trouble and worry in marriage, brought on through the ill-health of one of the marriage partners.
When the curve downwards is sharp or acute, the person the subject is married to will die suddenly.
When the line divides at the end into a drooping fork sloping towards the centre of the hand, it threatens judicial separation, or divorce. When it is broken into two pieces, it denotes a break in the married life, but not necessarily judicial separation.
III. Children:
The lines relating to children are the fine, upright lines from the middle or end of the Line of Marriage on the Mount of Mercury.
Deeply marked lines denote male children, faintly marked females. Male children as a general rule are more marked on the mother’s hand, while on the father’s hand the girls may be more often seen. Clear lines denote strong, healthy children, wavy lines the reverse. If found ending at the island, death will be the result. When a line appears clearer and superior to all the rest, one of the children will be more important to the parent.
The numbers are counted from the outside or middle of the Marriage Line in towards the hand.
That’s all for now. It’ll give you a good start to Palmistry. You can use this article to kill time, start conversation, for just for the sake of exploring new ideas.
See… Did it take
half an hour??? 29 minutes 59 seconds maybe… at most!
