Is government spending the taxpayers’ money in an enlightened way, or limiting the freedom?

The opinions may vary based upon the way people perceive the operations and administering of the government.

The common established trend seems to be that “As government grows, the people decline, and so do the underpinning of the nation to include liberty, the free market and personal responsibility.

The government is meant to be led by citizens, not the way other way around. But the government appears to be a powerful institution limiting our freedom. To fight this limitation, and restore our republic, the role of government should be limited.

In fact, the “so-called” government has a reputation for mismanagement, which it mostly deserves. The government is trying to do much more than it is supposed to do. For instance, Bureaucracy. The government collects the tax from the general people and most of this collected revenue is spent on feeding the staffs of bureaucracy, calling which “the waste distribution territory” wouldn’t be much of bad. We have far too many for the country we’ve now, and it is a huge boat-anchor on our economy.

But it doesn’t mean that the role of government should be reduced to zero, because we need some government, despite of its inefficiency.

A certain portion of the total income of the society is going through the government to pay for certain really basic functions like judicial systems, defense, law and order, etc. but we are far from achieving the kind of society in which government is engaging only in what is regarded as proper functions of government. Even the USA which everybody regards as a freest society in the world is half socialized. The resources spent or directed by the government produce less than our equivalent utility.

There are many great things about the world as it is now. But there are enormous problems and most important of those problems are produced by the government. The act of government on our spending addresses it as a crime. But it is victimless. Trying to prohibit victimless crime has an emotional appeal, appeal to ethical values and it results far more harm than good. So whatever is told about the ethical value, the ethical appropriateness of government telling people what they should put into their mouth, what actions they should engage in…, it doesn’t work. You can’t control people that way. And the results are worse than not doing it.

Government can’t involve in checking something without imposing costs on somebody. It is to raise money for taxes. It is to interfere with their freedom.
