The wait is finally over! Nepal Idol Season 4 is starting
from Mangsir 23 (9 December 2021). If I were you, I’d put aside all other plans
and tune into AP1 HD at 08:30 pm. Okay, I may be a little too excited, but I
have my own reasons. It’s NEPAL IDOL, duh!

Let’s Start With The Judges
Despite the rumors that the Idols franchise had withdrawn
from Nepal, it has made a comeback with a new lineup of judges for Season 4.
The previous three seasons of Nepal Idol had Nhyoo Bajracharya, Kali
Bajracharya, and Indira Joshi as the judges. Since they moved to Saregama Lil
Champs, they are replaced by Sambhujeet Baskota, Subani Moktan, and Sugam
Pokharel for Nepal Idol Season 4. AP1 announced the new judges for Season 4 through
a press conference held on 20 August 2021.
Sambhujeet Baskota is a heavyweight name in the Nepali music
industry. He holds a jaw-dropping record of having composed over 3000 songs and
still counting. We expect him to bring years of experience to give a new taste
to Nepal Idol.
Most of us Gen-Y kids grew up listening to Sugam Pokharel
from an early age. He has a rare quality of voice with bass on it. He needn’t
even sing. Just listen to him say anything normally, and you’d know what I am
talking about. Voice with personality!
And we have the most beautiful Subani Moktan! Should I even
write anything? Her latest single “Maya Ho Ki Maya Jastai” has already
surpassed a million views on YouTube within a few weeks of its release. Just

I think that she is a naturally gifted singer, composer, and
songwriter. If I am not wrong, she used to teach at Kathmandu Jazz
Conservatory. That’s impressive! I am sure she will bring energy and enthusiasm
to Nepal Idol.
Hosts
Our all-time favorite Asif Shah will be once again cracking
us with his sense of humor in Nepal Idol Season 4. He has been keeping us
hooked to the show since Season 2. He will be accompanied by Reshma Ghimire who
gained popularity from TikTok.
Auditions
Due to the pandemic situation, digital auditions were
conducted for a month via APON app from 17 August. Those who made it through
this audition were given a chance to impress the new judges on physical
auditions organized in Biratnagar, Nepalgunj, Pokhara, and Kathmandu on various
dates.
What’s Next?
Based on the modality of the show, my best guess is that the
AP1 will be airing the audition round almost until the end of December. The 30
selected participants will then enter the Theater Round where they will have to
stay in a closed camp. They will be reduced to 15 for the Gala. Elimination
will start with a series of Gala Rounds and the participants might have to
perform on various themes now and then.
Provided that everything goes according to plan, the Grand
Finale will be held tentatively in April. The production team is planning to
conduct the Grand Finale in London this time.
Summing Up
Music is the universal language that has no boundary. It is
the shows like Nepal Idol that provide a platform for new and rising musical
talents who would have vanished otherwise. Let’s come together and celebrate
music together.
