One more good reason: Why You Should Learn to Play Guitar!

I
Right seems Right!
see lots of people who play guitar and/or who wanna play the guitar. When I ask ‘em why do they play guitar or why are they learning to play the guitar, I hardly get any obvious answer from them. Well, let’s see… Some of ‘em did that just to impress the ladies. Some argue that “Music is their passion”! A few of ‘em say that they just learnt to play it, nothing more! And I’d say I’m one of ‘em who “just learnt to play guitar”! Yeah, seriously! I learnt to play it myself. No teacher. I’m my own mentor!

But for now, let’s cut to the chase and face the case. (Wow, I kinda sound like Eminem.) So why should you learn to play guitar? Now, I can spill out countless reasons for playing guitar. But come on, those reasons make no sense. In this article, I’m trying to put forward a psychological approach to “GUITAR”. Can you imagine it? Yes, you should. There’s no way out, dawg!

We all have brains. Simply put, our brain is divided into two [equal] halves. We call ‘em: left hemisphere, and right hemisphere respectively. What’s the difference? Look at the following figure:

L-R Brain Hemispheres Activities

More than 90 percent of the human beings in this world are rational. Rational here means dominated by the critical thinking, and subordination of creative thinking. That means, our left hemisphere of brain is more active than the right counterpart. One more interesting thing about our nervous system is that each hemisphere controls the opposite parts of the human body. That means, our left brain hemisphere controls the right hand, and the right hemisphere controls the left hand. To personify the instance, Left handed person have right brain hemisphere more active than the left, thus, they are generally more creative in thinking. Let’s see some of the popular left-handed people: Eminem, Jimi Hendrix, Curt Cobain, and a lot more creative people. They all are considered legends and they have next to nothing to do with the formal education which is another word for critical thinking or fostering of left hemisphere.

All the greatest works in the world is the result of critical and creative thinking being integrate into one. Albert Einstein, you know, he discovered the formula: E=mc2. But few of you may know about what he used to do. He used to stimulate both brain hemispheres. For left hemisphere, it’s obvious, that he was a great mathematician. For right hemisphere, he relied on music. He stimulated his creativity playing violin and piano. Had someone given him a guitar, he’d have been a rock star! The world would’ve been a great place to live in.
I don’t wanna make it long. But I think that you get the point. Of course, music being creativity, I could have suggested any instrument. But why Guitar? The unique aspect of guitar is if you are right-handed, you would have to spend most of the jam session training your left hand fingers. Left hand means right brain hemisphere. And we are culturally and socially brought up to use left hemisphere by default. Thus, with guitar you can better stimulate your creativity. Criticality, it is just there. When both of these hemisphere supplements, you could be the next legend of this generation. You could be the next Einstein. You could be the next Steve Jobs.

God Bless. Think Different.
