Statue of Liberty and July 4: American Independence Day

Statue of Liberty
Statue of Liberty

After 365 (or is it 366) day since the July 4th of last year, yet once again, it’s July 4th again. Cool… ain’t it? A decade back in 2010, I was working on my art project of the “Statue of Liberty”. But wait… You might ask… aren’t you talking about July 4? And why are you now bringing out the “Statue of Liberty”? What does these two things got to do with one another? True! If you are asking this question, I must say that either you aren’t American or you must have had serious issues with “History” teacher back in the schools. Anyway, long story short… just look at the Inscription on the tablet that the lady is holding on her left hand. It says: JULY IV MDCCLXXVI, i.e July 4, 1776 in roman, which is the date of the US Declaration of Independence.

Okay, I might have addressed the Statue as lady, but, in fact, the statue is of Libertas—the Roman Goddess of Liberty. This Statue of Liberty is situated in the Liberty Island, Manhattan, New York City. It is perceived as the symbol or icon of freedom and, as media have portrayed—the American Dream.

From July 4, 1776 till date, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American Independence as a result of Declaration of Independence being adopted by the Continental Congress. Over the years, the Independence Day has remained as an important symbol of Patriotism.

In dedication to the American Independence Day (July 4th) and the Statue of Liberty, I had undertaken the Charcoal Art Project to create the replica of the “Statue of Liberty”. While working on the project, I had to undergo through every details of the Statue. I also went about learning about its historical background. Really interesting.

That’s all for now.

Once again, Happy Independence Day.

God Bless America.
