Ever since Apple introduced its first iPhone on June 29, 2007, the earth has revolved around the sun nearly 13 times. As the legacy of Late Steve Jobs continues to live among us in the form of the iPhone, Apple adds to its flagship series the iPhone 12. The interesting thing about this flagship is that iPhone 12 now comes in four different models which is discussed later in this post.

iPhone steps into 5G

Apple pushes itself to the 5G technology with iPhone 12. While the 5G technology is still under development, even in the United States, it may be awhile before the iPhone 12 users can get to experience the world’s fastest ever wireless technology. However, with one of the largest 5G giant--Huawei out of the American market, the question remains how the West will go about developing 5G networks. Prior to Apple, Samsung and Huawei have already launched their flagship 5G smartphones more than a year ago. For Apple, it’s better late than never.

iPhone 12: Pro and Non-Pro

Actually it’s just two, broadly categorized as Pro and Non-pro. The Pro model has iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, whereas for the non-pro, it is iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini, which come at comparatively lower price tag than its pro version. Pro model has, of course, pro camera features. This long awaited iPhone was revealed by Apple on October 13, 2020 at its Apple Special Event.

iPhone 12

iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max

The name says it all. It’s PRO. These models are at the highest end of Apple smartphones, with relatively higher price tags. Of course, it comes with pro features, viz.

Display: 15.5 cm (Pro); 17 cm (Pro Max)

Camera: Three Cameras. In fact, photography is the major strength of iPhones.

3D Sensor (aka LiDAR-Light Detection and Ranging). It is a remote sensing method. The sensor emits the pulsed light waves to measure ranges and distances in the surrounding environment. This technology can significantly improve low-light camera operations which most other smartphones really suck at!

iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini

The size of smartphones have been increasing gradually over the years. The Apple iPhone is no exception. However, with iPhone 12 Mini, you can enjoy the world’s best smartphone without compromising your pocket space. Like Steve Jobs often used to say during his Keynote presentations: “Isn’t that cool!?”.

iPhone 12 is the base model, i.e. It is the same size as its predecessor iPhone 11 with 15.5 cm display, but lighter and thinner. iPhone 12 Mini is, well, it is mini. In fact, Apple calls its new iPhone 12 Mini with 13.7 cm display as “the world’s smallest, thinnest, lightest 5G phone”.

A14 Bionic Chipset

It’s worth noting that the iPhone 12 is powered by the industry-leading A14 Bionic Chipset. It is a major support for 5G technology in the phone. This highly powerful Chipset designed by Apple offers massive upgradation in the performance of the phone while improving the battery life by almost 40%.

Water Resistant iPhone 12

Water Resistant iPhone

Mankind is growing careless with their phones. Considering this carelessness of smartphone owners, companies are making their products water resistance. In fact, the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini can make it safely through everyday water spills on it without any damage, including your hot coffee or chilled soda drinks. These phones have an industry-leading IP68 rating for water resistance up to 6 m for as long as 30 minutes. Shall we go for underwater photography!?

iOS 14

The latest iPhones come with iOS 14. The major updates in iOS 14 are redesigned home screen, improvements in Siri and many other new features. App Clips is a new addition to iOS 14 which can allow the users to use some features of the app without downloading the full app. Furthermore, Apple takes the users privacy very seriously with updated privacy protections in this new update.

Smaller Package without Charger and Headphones

This time, the iPhone packaging is comparatively smaller and there is a good reason for it. Guess what, there are no charger and headphones in the package. The latest iPhone 12 comes without any charging adaptor and headphones. However, there is a charging cable, which is a relief. Apple assumes the customers already have their own sets of adaptors and headphones. The company justifies this change as a way to reduce carbon emissions and to avoid mining and use of precious materials. This decision of Apple to supply its iPhones without chargers and headphones has been trolled by the internet community predicting that whether the iPhone 13 package will have any iPhone at all!

It all comes down to the price of the iPhone!

Unless you are an Apple evangelist, the price of iPhones does matter. The pre-orders for the iPhone 12 will begin from October 16, 2020. In Nepal, iPhone 12 can be expected to arrive by the end of November at its earliest! The expected starting price for iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini (both 64 GB) are $799 and $699 respectively. For the higher end variants, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max (both 128 GB) can be expected at no less than $999 and $1099 respectively. Is your kidney really worth it!?

No doubt, Apple Inc.’s iPhones are the world’s best smartphones who want to feel premium and royal like the people do with Rolls-Royce. Above all, it is a matter of user-experience and design that sets the iPhones different from its counterparts. Ever since Steve Jobs first introduced the iPhone, he changed the game of the business forever and his unique flair for design and user experience still continues to influence the generation for years to come.
