Windows 11 |
Windows 10
has been around for a long time. It has been with us long before the COVID-19
pandemic first hit us. Following the not-so-happy review on Windows 8 (and
Windows 8.1) from the Windows Users because they just didn’t know where to “Start”,
Microsoft went back to the basics with Windows 10. And boy, Windows 10 didn’t disappoint us. Our all-time favorite START button was back. And if you are one
of ‘em Windows 10 users, it’s time to get ready for the free upgrade to the New
Windows 11 OS. God Bless Microsoft!
What’s in the New Windows 11?
The first
look into the new Windows 11 hints at some significant redesign in the UI for
simplicity along with really cool features. Well, isn’t that what the new
upgrade about? (But Apple’s MacBook UI rocks!) Unlike the latest Windows 10
Update which was nothing more than a Weather Report on your taskbar!
The all-new Windows 11 Taskbar
Talking about the taskbar, it is where Windows 11 will be seen
with major changes. But don’t worry. You will have your START Button. Microsoft
has learned it a hard way that doing away with the signature START Button and
Menu in the Windows 8 was a bad idea, which they partly rectified in Windows
8.1.
By default,
the Start menu is centered for a new UX, along with other pinned and running
programs. Like Windows 10, the new Start Menu will feature pinned apps, recent
files with quick and easy shutdown and/or restart options. However, the new
upgrade simplifies the design along with flexibility. Of course, we are used to
having the Start Menu aligned on the bottom-left of the screen. If you want to
do it the old way, Windows 11 allows you to move the by-default centered Start
Menu and app icons to the left.
Dark and Round Windows 11
Everything is
going for round corners these days, from table edges to windows. By windows, we
mean Windows 11. Adapting the dark mode which is starting to become a trend in
software development these days, Microsoft is making its corners rounded for
everything it suits. From Start Menu to the File Explorer, you needn’t worry
about stumbling and getting cut by its contemporary sharp edges. What a
life-saving design! Do you think that this new upgrade makes Windows more like
Mac?
Personalize your Windows 11 Widget
Tell me Widget, is it gonna rain today?
The latest Windows
10 Update brings you a widget beside the notification try on the taskbar where
you can see the weather forecast at a glance. Click on it and it opens up to
reveal more: Weather, News, Stock Market, Calendar, Photos, and more. Window 11
features more or less the same widget which you can personalize, from its size
and location to what you want to appear on it.
Oh, Snap!
The best OS
is that which stays out of your way. And Windows 11 rightly tries to hit that
spot. With its Snap Layouts, Windows 11 takes multitasking to a whole new
level. Want to make your workspace more efficient and cleaner? Just snap it! It’s
like what you currently call cascading or something, but better! The new Snap
Layout allows you to snap your programs to show side by side in the columns or
grid as per your preference.
Android enters through Windows 11
Windows
8/8.1/10 never really impressed the users in terms of its Microsoft Store. But
that’s gonna change with Android apps being integrated and easily installable directly
from the Microsoft Store. But not all the Android apps on Google Play will be
available for Windows 11. That’s common sense. However, the process of getting
Android apps on Windows 11 is a little strange because you need to download
them through Amazon Appstore. What!?
Free Upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11
I have saved
the best for the last. Yes, there will be a legitimate free upgrade from Windows
10 to Windows 11 once it rolls out later this year, most of the eligible Windows
10 users will be able to upgrade to Windows 11 for free by the beginning of
2022. If you are one of the Windows 10 users like me, then… Congratulations!
But if you are one of those who had the guts to stay with Windows 8/8.1, first,
I salute you for sticking with it. Second, I suggest you upgrade to Windows 10
ASAP.
Microsoft has attempted to make some cool upgrades in its upcoming
Windows 11. But unlike its way of bringing radical UX changes (which sometimes
required tutorials), Windows 11 will make you feel at home from the moment you
upgrade to it. It’s like Windows 10, but better, simpler, and more efficient.
Welcome to the Windows 11.
