EURO 2020 (2021) Final: England vs. Italy |
Time does fly away really quick. Just a month back, Euro 2020(2021) kicked off on 11 June 2021, where Italy won over Turkey by 3-0. And now,
after a month-long of back-to-back “struggle for existence” and “survival of
the fittest”, Italy made it to the Euro Cup 2021 Final. Ladies and Gentlemen, it’s
here… the EURO 2020 Final between England and Italy. The game will be
hosted at the Wembley Stadium in London on 11 July 2021. The game will kick off
at 20:00 BST (GMT+01:00).
UPDATE:
EURO 2020 GOES ROME
"Within the second minute of the kickoff at Wembley, English fans were almost sure that the Euro Cup is finally coming home. But not so fast. Italy equalizer in the 67th minute took the game to inevitable extra time, and then to the penalty shootouts. Italy created history with a 3-2 win over England, breaking its long drought of trophy. England has to go on for few more years without any titles! Sorry, but it is what it is!"
The EURO 2020 went through a series of unexpected turns of events
in the last few weeks. We had the defending World Champion France and the Euro
Champion Portugal in the same Group of Death (F) along with Germany. All three
giants made it to the Round of 16. But none of them were able to make it past
it. That left only a few potential contenders for the succeeding rounds.
Survival of the Fittest
If Charles Darwin was alive today, he would name this Euro Cup
2020 Final (England vs. Italy) as the perfect example of “struggle for
existence” and “survival of the fittest” theories. For a great team that missed
out on World Cup 2018, Italy had a great start in the Euro 2020. From the
opening match against Turkey, its comeback to the beautiful game of football continued
throughout the tournament. The Semi-Final against Spain was the real test where
the fate of the match was decided with penalty shootouts. From Group Stage to
the Semi-Final, Italy stands strong with all wins.
On the other hand, England made it through with some narrow wins
and a draw. But, as a team, it deserves to be in the final. It was in this same
Wembley Stadium that England scored a 2-0 win over mighty Germans in the Round
of 16. The English team is shining under the capable leadership of Harry Kane
on the field. Of course, we had great expectations from Cristiano Ronaldo who literally
wiped off $4 billion in Coca-Cola’s share value. And, of course, from Joachim
Löw’s boys. But none of them survived the test.

Home or Rome?
“Home or Rome”? Isn’t it so catchy? That’s why it’s been catching
up lately as the Euro Cup 2020 Final Match between England and Italy waits to
be kicked off tonight. This time, no single European country hosted the
tournament, but it was played over 11 countries in 11 cities, from 11 June to
11 July, among 11 players in each team! Wow… we talking 11 here! Anyway, back
to Wembley!
Going back to the 60s
This is the opportunity for both England and Italy to create a
history for their country after a long time. And by “long”, I mean really long.
Let’s go back to the 60s when there was neither Apple nor Microsoft. Yes… Italy
last won their first-ever Euro Cup Champions Title back in 1968. If my math is
right, it’s been 53 years, and this time Italy is serious about bringing the
trophy to Rome.
Well, not so fast… Let’s hear about the English. England is vying
for its first-ever European Champions title. England had some big names in
football history, like David Beckham, Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard, Michael
Owen, Frank Lampard… The list goes on. They made the 90s kids’ childhood
amazing, and maybe, they are the reason Gen-Z knew about football. However,
England hasn’t brought home any significant title since it last won the 1966
World Cup, coincidentally at Wembley. This is the first time the English team
has reached the Euro Final. And with 66,000 spectators, most of them in support
of England on the home ground, Harry Kane can’t wait to go and lift the Euro
Cup Trophy.
Euro Cup 2020 (2021) is a sign that we are about to go back to new
normal amidst the lingering threat of the COVID-19 pandemic. A month-long of
this great continental football tournament is coming to the prestigious end
today while Lionel Messi won the first-ever tournament for his country in Copa
America some 18 hours ago. But this is not the end. It is a new beginning. Aren’t
you excited about the World Cup 2022 that is gonna be hosted in Qatar?
